Project: Documentary Industrial Design

June 17, 2009 | Comments

I see my study, Industrial Design, like the often used image of a boy and his toy on the beach that I used for this post: I guess the idea wasn’t all bad, but the end result isn’t that awe inspiring. Now I could start being all Dutch about it and complain (which, to be honost, I do every now and then) but this time I took another approach on the subject.

For a free assignment, I set a quest to prove myself wrong. I’m making a documentary about what it means to be an industrial designer. I’m actually really curious about my fellow students’ motives to become a designer and how it has turned out for them so far. I want to hear the good, the bad and the ugly. I chose one path, but I know there are many others I could’ve chosen. There’s a lot of room for personal choices within the program.

Maybe the best thing is that this is my first documentary and I’m stoked that I can actually do this as part of my study program. I love documentaries and I think I could well spend my life making them. The only reason I didn’t make one before is that there is so much interesting stuff in the world, I just don’t know where to start.

The deadline for this assignment is July 11th.
